Trailblazing Women Celebration: Gwendolyn Brooks For kids (Ages 7-13) June 4, 2020 We celebrated trailblazing women with a talk with Suzanne Slade (Author) and Cozbi Cabrera (Illustrator) about their book "Exquisite: The Poetry and Life of Gwendolyn Brooks." The conversation was moderator by PBS Chicago's Tim Russell, VP of Community Engagement. Trailblazing Gwendolyn Brooks (1917-2000) was the first African American to win the Pulitzer Prize in 1950 for her outstanding poetry. From Chicago, Gwendolyn wrote about "real life" from a young age. Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Celebration For Kids (Ages 5-12) May 21, 2020  In celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, PBS Books presented a live discussion with author Minh Lê and illustrator Dan Santat about their book Drawn Together in an interactive event.
