SUMMARY:Celebrate Native American Heritage Month with Trailblazer Author: Toni Jensen
DESCRIPTION:PBS Books\, in collaboration with WTTW\, presents a conversation with Toni Jensen\, author of Carry and From the Hilltop. The conversation will be moderated by author and veteran David Tromblay. \nCarry: A Memoir of Survival on Stolen Land is a powerful\, poetic memoir-in-essays about gun violence\, land\, and Indigenous women’s lives. From the Hilltop draws on American Indian oral traditions and Jensen’s own Métis upbringing to tell stories that mix many lives and voices – her characters offer fleeting perspectives on a world that reconfigures the tragedy and disconnection often found in narratives of American Indian life. \nAbout the Author\nToni Jensen teaches in the MFA programs at the University of Arkansas and the Institute of American Indian Arts. She is a 2020 recipient of a Creative Writing Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts\, and her work has been published in Orion\, Catapult\, and Ecotone. She is Métis. \n
