Barbara Kingsolver has written it all: poetry, novels, nonfiction, essays, opinion pieces, and more! For more than three decades, Kingsolver has captivated readers with her powerful prose and poetic style, capturing the raw and real trials and triumphs of life with beautiful, evocative language. A Pulitzer Prize winner known for exploring family, community, and the places we call home, Kingsolver has built a remarkable body of work spanning novels, poetry, nonfiction, essays, and more. Her latest novel, Partita, debuted at #4 on The New York Times Hardcover Fiction bestseller list in October 2026, while Demon Copperhead earned her the 2023 Pulitzer Prize in Fiction.  In this special episode of PBS Books Readers Club, we're sharing reflections on her most memorable books to help you find – or re-discover – your next great read.

Kingsolver's writing has also inspired fellow authors, particularly those who share her connection to Appalachia. Kentucky writer Silas House (Clay's Quilt) reflects on her influence: "Barbara Kingsolver has been a great mentor to me… and I just love the way that she has represented our place. She's also somebody who is full of hope. And she's a realistic optimist, and I really appreciate that about her." Plus, hear from Kingsolver herself as we celebrate the stories and ideas that continue to resonate with readers.

Join PBS Books Readers Club for a closer look at Barbara Kingsolver's work, from beloved bookshelf staples to her latest release. And come ready to share your own favorites in the chat! We'd love to hear which Kingsolver book you love most and how her writing has inspired you.
